Brian Freeman is without doubt one of the world’s great adventurers and what he has done and achieved in his life will leave most people speechless. His mental strength and toughness to deal with adversity on all levels and his ability to overcome monumental challenges that have confronted him and still rise to the top is nothing short of amazing. He has been running worldwide adventures with many groups with all different objectives and outcomes. Brian is a fantastic guy with great empathy and compassion, and you will be happy to just spend a few days in his company and learn about adversity and gain some of the skills mentally and physically required to keep raising the bar.
Andrew is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in remote area adventure medicine. He completed a Masters of Trauma and Military Trauma, in addition to the World Extreme Medical Program in the UK. He was the invited doctor for Discover Channel’s ‘Eco Challenge – World’s Toughest Race’ with 300 competitors. Andrew has completed five full Ironman Triathlons, and a host of global adventures including kayaking Bass Strait, nine crossings of the Kokoda Trail, and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
One of Australia’s greatest ever athletes, Guy continues to compete recently winning the Masters Ironman title on the Gold Coast. He was the Australian Surf Ironman Champion and a three-time Australian Junior Ironman champion. In triathlon, Guy held the Australian Triathlon Olympic distance title amongst a host of other podium finishes. A humble, enthusiastic and always smiling gentleman, it is a privilege to have Guy on our team.
Dr Kate Gazzard brings together a unique combination of physiotherapy and sports medicine skills along with a genuine passion for helping patients overcome their injuries to perform at their best, whether it be as a weekend warrior, top end age-grouper or professional athlete. She has worked at all levels of rugby, from school and club to Super Rugby and International 7’s. She has previously been the Team Doctor for the Brumbies Super Rugby Team, The Western Force and the Australian Women’s 7’s. She is currently the Australian Medical Delegate for the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup Triathlon in Australia and is the Medical Adviser for the Triathlon Australia Technical and Operational Risk Committee.
Mal joined the Australian Army in 1981 and spent 35 years serving his country with numerous deployments overseas before taking on new adventures. He has completed seven Kokoda Trails, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, and trekked to Everest Base Camp twice. Just to show he’s an all-rounder, he has the trifecta in open ocean swimming, conquering the English Channel, Manhattan Island and Catalina Island to mainland USA.
Karla Gilbert, OAM, is a National Surf lifesaving icon, Ironwoman champion, accredited Nutrition and Health Coach, certified Fitness Trainer, Australian Stand-Up-Paddle Board title holder, businesswoman, and mother of two. Karla is passionate about sharing her knowledge and inspiring others to work towards ‘a better you’ through healthy nutrition and fitness habits that fit with your lifestyle
Carl is the author of five books, a coach, expert strategist and an educator who is passionate about seeing people evolve into fuller expressions of their unique selves, while being true co-creators in their lives. He is an expert at helping people remove any inner obstacles in order to create an enhanced outer experience. He has been an Australian Army Major, a senior consultant to multiple Olympic Games, a personal fitness trainer, a corporate wellness trainer, a keynote speaker, and a co-owner of The Practice yoga centre in Bali.
Our Head Trainer, Brett Stalley, is an inspirational all-rounder with a boxing, self-defence, and fitness industry career of more than four decades. His competitive spirit sees him regularly compete in high level endurance events. His resume includes the Australian Titles Triathlon Sprint and Olympic distances – 2nd in his age group, Australian Titles Half-Ironman – 2nd in his age group and flying the Aussie flag at the World Triathlon Championships. Brett was also instrumental in helping to develop the original S.A.F.E. (Securing a Female Environment) program, training hundreds of women in Brisbane.
John is one of the most experienced and accomplished adventure racers in the world, having been involved in the sport since its inception. John was awarded the Keys to the City of Melbourne in 1987 after being crowned World Marathon Kayak Champion for the 3rd year in a row, going on to win the title four times. He has completed 30 major international adventure races in 16 countries and was the first Australian to win the coveted Coast to Coast title in NZ. John has developed a reputation as a designer of many epic race courses across adventure racing, mountain biking and trail running. He’s often pouring over maps and is always planning his next personal adventure in another far flung part of the world. He brings great ideas and logistics experience to any bucket list dream.
Sam has the enviable job of designing and delivering off—road races for athletes of all levels and then celebrating their success after they complete events like running their first 100km ultra marathon or mountain bike through Australia’s Red Centre. He is an accomplished athlete in his own right and is regularly on the podium of Australia’s biggest ultra-marathons or racing the masses on his mountain bike as he moves from one event objective to another.
